Summary

 

DEQ is conducting a rulemaking to update its rules concerning onsite wastewater management systems, commonly called septic systems. DEQ's onsite rules have become outdated over time. This rulemaking will bring standards and practices up to date and add new products and tools. The rulemaking may also increase some fees to cover current expenses. The rulemaking will affect divisions -071 and -073 of DEQ's administrative rules. DEQ expects to complete this rulemaking in the fall of 2019.

 

Stakeholder Involvement

 

The statutorily created Technical Review Committee is meeting to participate in developing these rule changes. The committee will discuss a proposed rulemaking and consider recommended rules, amendments and modifications. The committee will meet periodically through mid-2019.

The public may attend, but is not entitled to participate in, advisory committee meetings. Later in this rulemaking proceeding DEQ will invite public comments on and will hold a public hearing about the proposed rules. At that time any member of the public may submit comments and participate in the public hearing.
